TBT - Bedtime

Originally posted on 28th July 2016

Life has been crazy busy of late. Harry has been working all hours and, as well as trying to keep up with the business admin, I have had a lot of family commitments. There just haven't been enough hours in the day and we have both ended up exhausted by the time evening comes around.

Harry bounces back as soon as his eyes are open but I am not a morning person at the best of times. I have to come back into the world s-l-o-w-l-y and with at least two cups of coffee. If I don't get enough sleep I am not nice to know, grouchy just doesn't cover it. Harry has been very helpful on the worst days, either by using his magic sleeping aid (why do we sleep like babies after a spanking?) or sending me to bed early.

That's another of the many things I thought I would never write. When I first started reading blogs, I was astonished to find women being sent to bed by their husbands. There was no way I'd put up with that, absolutely not!

Unfortunately, Harry must have missed that memo because one night, not long after my first 'real' spanking, I was up late reading when he came into the room, saying I should go to bed; the next day was going to be busy and I needed my sleep. I said I'd just get to the end of the chapter first and carried on reading. It was a gripping book and, two chapters later, Harry came back and told me to go upstairs or I'd get a spanking. I protested that he couldn't do that, I'm not a child, and I would go to bed when I was ready and not before. got spanked.

The following evening, as he was leaving for a late session at the local sports centre, Harry told me that as I'd had a long, tiring, day he wanted me to be in bed by the time he got home. That did not go down well, as you can imagine, and I was quite determined I was not going to comply. Much later, I was immersed in my book when my phone buzzed beside me with a text alert: "I'm just leaving, you have fifteen minutes." My resolve melted away and I dived into bed just as Harry drew up onto the drive. He knew I'd only just made it but he kissed me and said, "Good girl." I know some of you melt when you hear that but I loathe it, it makes me cringe. That amuses Harry, who uses it as a non-impact means of letting me know who's in charge.

I really struggled with the bed time issue and Harry was patient but unrelenting. The learning curve continued something like this:

H: Rosie, time for bed.
R: Okay, I just need to finish this, five minutes.
H: Do you want a spanking?
R: No, but...
H: No buts. Go. Now.
Still having trouble giving up control...

H: Rosie, time for bed.
R: Okay, I just need to...
H: (smack) Off you go.
R: Okay (kiss).
Getting there...

H: Rosie, time for bed.
R: Okay, night, night.
H: Sleep tight (smooch) (pat, pat).
Got it!

Sweet dreams...

I asked Harry if he recalled that first tussle. Laughing, he said he remembers me, hands on hips, full of indignation, quite convinced that sending me to bed was not within his remit. I remember the debate ending, with him calmly asking why I was still standing there arguing when I could be half way up the stairs!

He had a chuckle about the following evening too.

Rosie

Thanks, NJ

    1. Occasionally I still make a little moue of resistance but the cocked eyebrow quells that! It's interesting to read others' accounts of their earlier days.

  2. This made me smile, Rosie. Actually, I have learned to love it when Sam confiscates my Kindle and kisses me goodnight. He is usually right about knowing I need to get to sleep.

  3. Hi Rosie, I am loving these Throwback Thursday posts. I'm a terrible night owl and Rick has sent me to bed on a few occasions in the past. It didn't go down well with me initially either lol.

  4. This sounds heavenly to me. I hope you are still enjoying this trend. It won't happen for me, Nick is out of bed getting ready for work by 3:45 am! So he goes to bed long before I do. He did ask that I come to bed the same day I got up from it and I usually do make it by midnight, but not by much.

    1. I don't think this trend will cease any time soon, PK. I've been told when to go to bed every day since I returned from holiday, though I've protested I'm over the jet lag. Our alarm goes off at 5.45am six days a week. If it were 3.45am I think we'd have to have separate rooms!

    1. It was a long learning curve but I got there in the end - with some reminders on my end!

  6. Rosie, I love the way you say things. This post was funny and adorable and also to be taken seriously! I have not been sent to bed, but we do have an unspoken agreement that I go get in the bed when he does. Although I do read or whatever until I am sleepy because otherwise I'd just be staring at shadows on the walls for an hour. LOL And we usually have taken care of spankings and sex things earlier in the day.... although some things do "come up" at night. :) Hugs! Great re-post ... first time for me though! Yay!

    1. I've been really tired a few nights this week, after a great vacation, so I've had the 'go to bed' signal a few times. Usually, it's only when I'm over tired or have to be up early the next day that I'm ordered up the wooden hill. I'm enjoying reading your blog, though I've missed a few posts recently.

    1. Hmm, that event would have stuck in his memory! I suppose I did present an amusing sight but it wasn't funny at the time.

  8. Your post made me smile. Like NJ, I loved Harry's recall. I'm a night owl and rarely in bed before midnight.

    1. I'm not a night owl or a lark, I just need a lot of sleep to function! I long for the day we can retire and throw away the alarm clock.

  10. I don't remember if I've commented here before or not. I'm usually looking at PKs blog but I love this TBT idea so I checked you out today. I loved this post! Why are so many of us night owls? I love when my husband makes me turn out the lights and stop reading or watching the late shows. Lately he's given up and sometimes he wakes in the middle of the night and turns everything off because I've fallen asleep. He mentions it but does nothing. I really like when he's more proactive but have a little problem with asking for it. I get plenty of fun spankings but he's been very forgiving about my obvious bratty stuff lately. I'll keep trying...

    1. Hello Rosie, thanks for stopping by, I've seen you commenting on PK's blog. You did a great job with Ella on proofing PK's latest book too. I think we all have times when the fun times are lovely but we crave a bit of discipline too. It's hard to ask, so I hope your husband finds something that needs correcting soon!
