In a Jam

If you've been reading here for a while you'll know that Harry finally agreed to spank me after 43 years, on the strict understanding that it would only ever be for fun. Somewhere along the line though, he became more assertive and discipline entered the mix. If I had any doubt that Harry has now truly embraced the ttwd dynamic, it was totally dispelled when he purchased two jam spoons recently. Yes, two, and not the regular kind either but the French version.

Early last month we spent a few days in France, stopping at a hypermarket on the way to our destination to buy supplies. Harry headed straight towards the wine section as I lagged behind looking at tableware. When I caught up with him he had stopped at a display of jam making utensils. In his hand was a large spoon-shaped object. It was obviously meant for stirring jam but it was flat on both sides, with no bowl, and a uniform thickness from end to end.  After tapping it in his palm he smiled and said it would do very nicely. Then he decided to take two.

I promise you I was an angel during that short break but, as we were loading the car to go home, Harry held up one of the spoons and said we'd try it out the next day. He only used it moderately for a few smacks but it left its sting, if not its mark.

20" long, ½" thick, 2½" at widest point

I rarely get into any real trouble but I blotted my copybook a few days ago when I went on a short trip to the next village. As I picked up my bag to get out of the car, I noticed Harry's spectacles on the passenger seat. My car had been in a tight spot on our drive and he had turned it round for me, leaving his specs inside. I went to get my phone from my bag to let him know where they were and realised it was still charging on my bedside table. On my return Harry met me at the door but, instead of the usual greeting, he crooked his finger for me to follow him to the kitchen, where a jam spoon was placed prominently on the table. As he guided me across the table he said I would see a missed call from him on my phone. He had called to ask if he'd left his specs in my car and heard my phone ringing upstairs. It was a short spanking but even over jeans that thing hurt like the dickens.

I'm wondering whether I should use that photo on the lock screen of my phone, to remind me not to leave home without it again...

  1. Rosie,
Ouch! A French jam spoon should be used just for jam making. That implement will get the job done and I am not talking jam here. Jack was a reluctant spanker at the very beginning and then he found out how well it worked. These men like their peace. If it takes a spanking, so be it. Remember to always take that phone. It is more important that all the jam spoons. Glad to see you are back!

    1. Meredith, I agree, those spoons should be used only for jam making. Harry was so cross because it was the second time in a month I'd left my phone behind. That was bad for my behind!

    1. Jan, I heartily agree with Cat - wood is no good! You're right, I won't forget my phone again in a hurry. I check its presence in my bag obsessively now!

  3. You are so darn lucky! I have no doubt it hurts but I don't think there is ANYTHING I could do to get Nick to spank me for real - even a little bit. Grrrr...

  4. Using that pic as a lock screen on your phone as a reminder would probably be a good thing, Rosie. Hope all other spankings are GG.

    1. I've gone off that idea, Cat. It might be difficult to explain why a wooden spoon is on the front of my phone when I open it to share content with friends and family! I get a lot of 'just because' spankings so I'm not at all hard done by.

    1. That spoon is horrid, Roz! I got a couple of swats with it yesterday, for sass. It's too handy there on the worktop, it may have to live in a cupboard instead!

  6. Rosie, Oh dear, I feel for you. I've felt the force of a jam spoon and yes they sting like the dickens.

Better not forget your phone again.

  7. Loved this little spoon story, Rosie. I have a very bad habit of leaving my phone at home. Perhaps there is something would motivate me.

    Have you ever heard...?

    "I love you the most,
    like jam on toast."

I hadn't heard that little ditty, Ella. I like jam on toast.

  8. Reminds me a bit of the incident here a couple of days ago. Let me just say that I am definitely not a fan of our wooden bath brush! That jam spoon looks just as ouchy!

    1. Ooh, Lilli, the bath brush, I don't relish the idea of that. We don't have one in our house.
Good to see you posting again (says the pot to the kettle).

    1. I guess the guys see it as a safety measure. Reminding Harry I existed perfectly well for 40 years without a mobile phone doesn't cut any ice.
Wood is definitely not good, Leigh!

  10. Oh my, how I know that feeling! We too have a phone rule and it has not been broken in years now. Lol! I’m sorry to hear that your newly acquired jam spoons were bought with another purpose in mind. Your Harry has certainly come a long way!

  11. Ouch Rosie! That spoon sounds like it would pack quite the sting. Better hope Harry lets you keep those jeans on. As for your phone, maybe you need to put a picture of the spoon in your car instead. Then, when you go to start the engine, you'll be reminded to run back for the phone if you need it. :)

Harry hadn't shown any real interest in kitchen pervertibles, except for a certain spatula, so the jam spoons came as a big surprise.
I was pretty good with my phone before this hiccup but shall certainly be taking extra care now!

  14. Wood = ouch for me. Using that pic on a lock screen could be very beneficial. My problem is i cant put DOWN the fone. Bikss has had to take it away from me a couple of times in the theatre so that I wouldnt be a menace to those around me. :(

    1. Oh, naughty Fondles! People using their phones in a theatre is one of my bugbears. I think wood = ouch for anyone who doesn't have a titanium bottom!

  16. Oh gosh, Rosie! I'm sorry for your poor bottom! Glad that you had the slight help of your jeans. Those jam spoons look much more stingy than the spatula!

Isn't it interesting how our men/partners take to looking at kitchen things a bit differently over time. Who would have thought it? I always have a laugh when I note Rob checking out a thing or two in a kitchen shop. Harry seems to have a keen interest. And two, no less! Sheesh! Be very good now. Remember that phone! You might stick a little reminder sign in your car, or something on your key chain, to remind you. Many hugs,

    <3 Katie

    1. Katie, it was that spatula that awakened Harry's interest in kitchen utensils - not that I'm blaming you, of course! I've moved the kitchen jam spoon to the cutlery drawer hoping it will be a case of out of sight, out of mind - wish me luck with that one!
The key chain is a good idea, I always check I have my house keys with me before leaving home.
